Learning Some New Tricks

Look what Emmy got me for Christmas!  We have been wanting/needing one for a long time.

I had to call in the big guns to help me learn about my new little treasure.  There are two people that I know of that are amazing...I mean AMAZING seamstresses.  One problem, the BEST one is in Florida right now.  So I called in the person that is Max's mini-me, Kaela Racer.  Oh my word, this girl has magic in her fingers.  She is amazing.  I just can't tell you how amazing.  Funny side note...I had her in preschool!  So she came last Friday night, we had a little dinner and then we went to the basement.  She is so patient.  I think she was jsut as excited as I was about the machine.  I learned some tricks, she taught me how to thread the machine, some tricks of the trade...and she was so patient.  I didn't feel 'dumb' at all.

She taught me how to hem pants the easiest was ever!  So I started with Michael's PJ pants.  I think I am up to having hemmed three pairs already. Serged so they don't fray and then hemmed on the machine.

Looks pretty professional to me.

Then I started on blankets for our AT Adventure this summer.  So far I have made two, one for Ellis and one for Alaire.  Sometimes Pappy keeps the truck at freezer level.  And some nights it is to hot for a sleeping bag and a nice light soft blanket is just what you need.  And notice the bear on the fabrics.  We are always hoping to see some bear but haven't yet.  Our last three states and hopefully we will.  But more than likely we will only see moose.  Mark and Michael saw these and have decided that they need one also.  But I have been told that they will be choosing their own fabric.

And Kaela...look what I thought of.  One better than your trash can to catch the scraps.  Genius!   Oh, Betsy, we are going to have so much fun with this.  Now all we have to do it set up the MegaQuilter and learn how to successfully use it.  Now that may take a while, but we will master it sooner or later, right?

I hope you enjoyed my attempt at quilting. I've learned a lot over the years from comments and conversations I have had with friends on the Internet. I hope you will leave a comment that will inspire me to be a better quilter.
