One More T-Shirt Quilt

. Sunday, March 27, 2022 .

We are making this one for a birthday surprise for Cooer, a Wammyville graduate and buddy from down the street.

I had to actually search for the directions to make sure I remembered everything correctly.  Then I had to call Besty because two heads are better than one when we have to figure out things using our math skills.

Marji sent me a garbage bag full of t-shirts to choose from.  I had to choose 25 of them...hard task because there were so many good ones to choose from.

Oops!  Sure is a good thing that my rotary cutter was a little dull or I might have been making a trip to the ER.  I am going to see if Alire can mend it for me using one of her fancy embroidery stitches.

All cut into 12.5-inch squares and ready for fusing.

I'm saving these backs for maybe a car quilt for this summer.

Cutting the fusible webbing for the back.

Pressing the fusible backing onto the t-shirts.  As you can see I have a little sugar and caffeine to keep me going.

Cutting once again into 12.5-inch squares.

Now for the sashings that go on all four sides of the t-shirt squares.

Five rows ready to go and the sashing pinned ready to sew.

First sash sewing and pressing when complete.

Now for the sashings between the rows horizontally.

Pinning the sashing between the rows and listening to my book as I go.

All sewn and ready to be pinned along with the batting and the backing.

To us, this is the scariest part because if you mess this up it's going to cost a little more money.  The long piece of fabric needs to be cut into two pieces.

Then we sew the two together the 'other' way and trim off the edge. I know what I mean I just can't find the exact words to explain it to you.

Our kitchen floor isn't big enough to pay out the quilt so we get permission to lay it out at church.

So far...all pined and trimmed and ready to quilt.  It's going to be a dandy!

Quilting this beast was a challenge.  I have never tried to sew a quilt with a fleece back.  I had to tug and pull it through the eye of the needle to be able to sew one side.  I got a real workout.

One last thing...the binding

Finished product.

And I think he likes it!

I hope you enjoyed my attempt at quilting. I've learned a lot over the years from comments and conversations I have had with friends on the Internet. I hope you will leave a comment that will inspire me to be a better quilter.
