Tacie is my new friend. She is actually the new daughter-in-law to my good friend Betsy. Betsy is also a gardening, quilting, and trash pickin treasure hunting buddy...among a whole host of other things. Betsy and I like to re purpose and reuse things...lots of things. Last week Bets came up with the idea to make a quilt or something maybe a Christmas tree skirt out of old flannel sheets that her boys had when they were growing up. So she brought them over and we starting thinking of ideas. Then I wanted to she her how to make some squares using two different fabrics. Cut them draw a line from opposite edges and then stitch 1/4 inch on each side of the mark. She was pretty impressed. We did maybe 30 of them and then tried to come up with some kind of pattern. Nothing much came of that. So she took them home and Tacie got a hold of them. So last night they came over and Tacie showed me her pattern. Then we got to work. Fred...the new husband...is away doing the preacher thing at church camp leaving Tacie home alone. She wanted to be able to get the little quilt finished so when she went to camp tonight she would be able to show him. (How cute it that?)
Lots of seams to press. And notice her sewing attire...my 'sewing room' is actually the laundry/storage/furnace room...even if the rest of the house is comfortable, it is freezing down there. We had to raid the closet for some scrubs and jackets.
This is her pattern minus the top point..the table wasn't wide enough.
The process went really quick. With three of us, we each had a job to accomplish. Tacie did all the stitching.
Betsy is the best seam presser around. She has pressed may of my seams. To help me make sure that I make a quilt deadline.
Pretty darn cute for some old flannel sheets I think. And so soft. It is all pieced and now comes the actual quilting.
I am a huge fan of stitching in the ditch. I have a really hard time stippling. So I taught her how to stitch in the ditch. She is a fast learner. And just look at that form! Notice her wool sweater. I even turned the air up so it would be a little warmer. Bets even had wool socks.
And her first quilt finished and ready to be packed to take to camp. I think Fred will be impressed.
