At Christmas Emmy was in charge of an activity for some of the classes at Hyde Park Elementary School.  Instead of playing games at the school party, several of the classes made blankets for a homeless shelter.  The kids were in charge of cutting the 4 inch corner pieces, cutting the strips and then also tying the strips together in knots.  They had a ball doing it.  I asked Emmy to save all the four inch squares so we could make some baby blankets for Wammyville.  There was one little girl that asked Emmy if she could have one of the blankets.  Sadly Emmy explained to her that they were making blankets for other people but she said that she would she if she could make her a blanket.  Emmy asked her what color.  The little girls smiled really big and said pink.  So today I sewed as many pink 4 inch squares I could find in the scrap bag she brought from school.  I washed it and put it in the drier with some tennis balls to make it even softer.

I think she is going to like it.

Just A Little Something

Betsy has been working every spare minute she has on this quilt.  Those minutes have been few and far between these days.  Life seems to have taken a big right curve for her.  But last Friday night Ms Yvonne and I were able to help her get the quilt top started (Yvonne cut, Betsy sewed, and I pressed the seams) and then she got her second wind and she was off to the races.

Betsy chose photos of family and things that they have done as a family so when Dewey see the pictures he will remember the fun times they have shared through the years.  She added some of his favorite t-shirts and a few cowboy squares.  Dewey loves a good western.

The top is complete.

The back is finished.  Now all we need to do is lay it out, tape it down, pin it and then Betsy will quilt it and adds the binding.  We have plan to pin on Thursday night.  We usually do that at church because we need a large piece of floor space to lay it out.  It won't be long before he is cuddled up in it by the fire watching John Wayne win the West.
